What Are Imprints?
|
||||
|
Most medicines
must be marked so that they can be identified. Markings on medicines are technically known as
imprints and are made up of one or more logo(s), numerical digit(s) or alphabetic character(s) or
combinations of the three component features. |
||||
What drugs have imprints? |
||||
| Medicines are required to bear an imprint by regulations of the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) and are classified as over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription (Rx) drugs, controlled substances, veterinary and homeopathic products. The Congress of the United States has not included vitamins, herbals and dietary supplements as classes within the 1975 and 1995 imprint regulations. | ||||
What is the purpose of this site? |
||||
|
Drugid.info
was developed to make identifications of
tablet or capsule medicines simple and definitive for professionals
and public alike. Thousands of deaths occur each
year due to medication errors, some of which could
be prevented by having the ability to identify
unknown medicines. Heath Care Professionals, Law Enforcement,
School Nurses, parents and end users can all use a
better method of checking the identity of medicines
and DrugID.Info has been designed to fill that need. |
||||
How does it work? |
||||
|
Imprints
are made up of logo, numeric and alphabetic
components. This website takes the user through a series of two to four steps, all
leading to a positive ID of a tablet or capsule by
our unique search routines.
You will be asked in the following screens to make choices - yes, no, agree or disagree. A positive ID will be the result in
vast majority of cases.
Verifying the color, shape and scoring of your
tablet or capsule allows a double check of our
results. In the infrequent case of a duplicate
imprint, the matching of color, shape and scoring in the database to the tablet
in hand will still lead to a positive ID.
We can also
accommodate the professional who needs a signed faxback or an original
copy of the identification. |
||||
How often can we make a positive id of a tablet/capsule? |
||||
|
The
search routines will identify about 97% of tablets and
capsules on the US market. Out of the remaining 3%,
half (1.5
%)
may be identified by our pharmacists within 24
hours. Where our search routines are not able to
positively identify a table/capsule, leave your
first and last name, e-mail address and phone number.
Our pharmacist will respond within 24
hrs. |
